Angela left the next morning as she had to welcome some bigwig who was going to give a lecture at Evergreen later in the day. She seemed very excited about this. In fact, she had spent a large part of the previous evening talking about this; she had said that his theories were staggering; earth shattering even.
She had showed her enthusiasm while drinking an excellent Rose and eating a perfect Greek salad that Richard, to her amazement
,.had made.
Richard had said, " Wait a few minutes , drink your wine, wish upon a star , and I'll bring you something to eat ".
Ten minutes or so later Richard came out on the patio, which was now lit by a very old-fashioned looking lantern. He placed a large plate in the middle of the oak table. It was a pleasant warm evening with a sky full of a thousand eyes.
Angela was impressed. She knew a bit about Greek cuisine, and this looked like the real thing.
Juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumber, sliced red onion , green pepper with crumbly feta cheese and large Kalamata olives. This had been served with tasty brown bread.
It had been a delightful day, Richard reflected, as he swept the shop floor. It now seemed almost like a dream. What he liked about it was the total unexpectedness of it all. Who would have thought, he mused, that the day would have turned out the way it had.
That really was an amazing fact of life. You never really knew what would happen next. You go for months, even years stuck, it seems, in the same groove, and then suddenly within a second or two your whole life can change. Sometimes it is for the better, and sometimes for the worse.
This time though was for sure for the better. For better or for worse, Richard smiled to himself ; now where had he heard those words before ?
He dismissed the thought from his head and unlocked the shop door. A shaft of sunlight exposed some dust that had been hiding on the floor. He quickly brushed it away.
It was another cloudless day and he wondered what delights or disasters were lurking within it, waiting for their cue to come centre stage.
As was his habit he went outside and looked at the display in the shop window. Shop window displays were quite an art which had always fascinated him. He was always changing the books he put on display.
His critical eye looked at his last efforts, and he decided he wasn't really happy with what he had done, It was too cramped, too crowded and too messy.
He went inside and started taking various books out. It needed more space. It was like a musical score with too many notes in it. After all, it was the spaces between the notes that created the magic of music.
While doing so he thought about yesterday's talk with Angela. She had talked mostly about frequencies and vibrations, and how these were the real secrets of life. A This had enthralled him as he had felt that she was saying the truth: he felt it inside, in his heart.
He had ,all his life, been interested in what a lot of people call ' strange ' subjects.
He had, at the age of 12 studied all the major religions and had found Buddhism, in particular the Zen branch of it, the most interesting. He had then studied the Paranormal, UFO's. Astrology, Numerology, Magic, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Laws Of Attraction, Lucid Dreaming, the ancient Myths of most countries, and a lot more too.
He had recently read about frequencies and vibrations, and this had convinced him that the power of sounds and words was something that could open up a whole new way of viewing things.
Angela though had carried the theories he had read about a lot further and forward than anything he had heard before.
The bigwig ( he couldn't for the life of him remember his name, even though she must have said it loads of times ) she had got so worked up about- which had made him a tiny bit jealous- was , Angel declared, raising her glass of wine to the stars, as if that was his true home, going to perform what we call a miracle.
She then put her hand on Richard's leg. Here eyes were alive with intensity.
Her voice was solemn as if speaking from a pulpit in a church.
" He claims that he is going, by using words only, to show us how to......"
