The Promises Made To Greeks.

Unbelievable really that before the elections in Greece last year that Samaras actually said the following.

Read it and weep.

17 days before the 17th June Elections in Greece,  in 2012 Samaras , on a Thursday afternoon in Athens, promised the people. " Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, "

Well I never: jobs, jobs, jobs.

And didn't he deliver!!http://www.tradingeconomics.com/greece/unemployment-rate

Tell that to my son and daughter and all their friends who have no hope of jobs.

That was not all he said. Read the following and weep.

1 No new taxes.

2. No new horizontal cuts.

3. Cancel  emergency taxes - did he mean the property tax ?

4.Restoration of very low pensions and benefits for parents of more children at 2009 levels and specific benefits.

5. Extension of unemployment benefit for two years.

Really ? See here :http://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2012/03/01/unemployment-benefit-goes-down-to-ridiculous-e359-per-month/

6.Unemployment benefit to self- employed for two years.

7.Tax regulations so that they won't exceed 25% of the average family income.

8. No further cuts in the private sector.

9. Increase the tax free income from 5,000 to 8,000 euros , and later to 10.000 euros when state revenues improve.

See; http://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2012/12/02/out-of-control-greece-to-tax-annual-income-of-e26000-with-45/

10 Replace the ' Emergency Property Tax ' with a new regular property tax..

Actually, the property tax is illegal, according to the Greek Constitution, but no one seems to give a fig.  I guess all the lawyers have gone to Germany or the U.K.

11. Gradual reduction of tax rates for businesses- and get this- immediate reduction of Vat in the catering industry at the level of 9 % !!! already in the next year!!

And the faithful believed him !

Now in the year 2013, Vat for the catering industry is, 13% , not 9.% as promised a year ago.And this was only introduced last month, not in 2012, as promised.

I reckon his next soundbite was the one that got him elected.

12.No lay-off for civil servants  for three years after the closure of public organizations.

Look at this :http://news.yahoo.com/greek-civil-servants-protest-layoffs-job-transfers-145002937.html

13. No other horizontal cuts, no more reduction in wages or pensions; no more cuts in public investment, not another tax.

14. Combat illegal immigration and crime.

Look at this:http://www.keeptalkinggreece.com/2012/03/12/crime-in-greece-one-robbery-per-hour-one-homicide-every-second-day/

So there we are. I can't imagine that anyone believed him, but it seems some poor deluded souls did.

Anyway, this September, 2013, the Troika have returned.

Guess what, I have a sneaky suspicion that they are going to demand more austerity measures.

Do you think the government will have the nerve to say no.

Afraid not.

Once yes men, always yes men.
