" Prime Minister Samaras has emerged in the past few months as a responsible leader who doesn't mince his words, who takes risks and stands by what he believes is the counrty's best interests."
The above was written in the English online edition. of Ekathimerini, on 18th September 2012. a popular Greek newspaper. It was written by a well known Greek journalist.
In George Orwell's 1984 the government makes people believe that lies are the truth and that the truth are lies. The statement,' He stands by what he believes is the country's best interest', surely fits Orwell's phrase.
It is painfully obvious to anyone that the measures that are going to be introduced will not help the Greek people or the country one jot, but will ruin a vast number of peoples lives. The measures only help the banks.
How anyone can believe otherwise is beyond me.
The other part of the statement,' is a responsible leader who doesn't mince his words', is an interesting one.
Let's look at it.
Two definitions of the word' responsible' are the following;
Able to be trusted or depended upon; reliable
Required to render account; answerable.
Does a responsible leader tell the electorate one thing and do the exact opposite of what he said ?
I don't think so. Surely, to put it politely, that is highly irresponsible ?
This is what Samaras said, amongst other things, before the election
1.Restoration of very low pensions for parents of more children at 2009 levels and specific benefits.
2. No further cuts in the private sector.
3. Extension of unemployment benefit to two years.
4.Unemployment benefit to self- employed who are currently not entitled.
5. Tax regulation not to exceed 25% of the average family.
6.Increase the tax free income from 5000 euros to 8000 euros and later to 10,000 euros.
7. Replace the 'emergency property tax'.
8 Reduction of tax rates for business.
9. Immediate reduction of vat in the catering sector at the level of 9% already in the next year.
10. Progressive tax reductions for individuals up to 32% from 45% today.
11. No lay-off for civil servants for three years.
12 No other horizontal cuts.
13 No more reductions in wages and salaries and pensions.
14 Not another tax.
15 Combat illegal immigration and crime
The above was obtained from the Keep Talking Greece site, which appears to have woken up to what is really going on, and now has some interesting articles.
Amazing he didn't add that he had also arranged for Santa Claus to give all the parents of children presents next Christmas, and that Easter Bunnies will dance for everyone this year , and that the Greek Gods will return shortly
The three wise men haven't yet announced what form of slow torture the Troika have told them to infict on Greek society, but a few leaks have appeared, no doubt, to prepare us, so we don't all go completely mad when they are officially announced.
However, what has been leaked is truly unbelievable in its extremity.
Cuts, cuts, cuts to wages, salaries, pensions, plus that whopper, to really get people dancing in the streets, a 13 hour day for six days a week Don't forget an increase in the retirement age from 65 to 67. Not to mention possible lay-offs for civil servants, and that everybody will have to pay tax !
.
Need I say more ?
" He doesn't mince his words". I think he does.I think he puts them through a mincer and they come out meaning the exact opposite of what he said.
"He takes risks". Now, that is true.Taking risks like a tightrope walker who has never walked the tightrope before, with a 1000 metre drop below him, without a safety net.
"Stands by what he believes in ".Oh yes, that is true.He believes that the banking system is far more important than his country or the Greek people.
