It was the very next day when the most amazing thing took place. It was so sudden, so unexpected, that Richard knew it would be one of those key memories of his life .A memory of what, ? an incident that lasted probably 15 seconds.
He would re-live it in his mind countless times; wake up re-living it; go to bed going over it over and over again, and smile each time he did so.
As a booster to his ego it was the booster of boosters; the spotlight that shone so brightly it dazzled and blinded him. Richard though was in love so he was already blind.
He always shut the bookshop at 1 -0 sharp to have a break for an hour. It was a hangover habit from his days when he worked in London at the boring insurance company.. His boss, a Mr. Prothero, a likeable, but middle-aged bore, always only popped out for ten minutes to return with a heart disease killer take-away that he ate at his desk while continuing his work. What a great example to his loyal workers !
His staff, apart from Richard, had, of course, copied him. Richard hadn't cared ; he knew he was entitled to an hour's lunch break and he took it. If his boss didn't like it , he didn't give a toss. As he walked down the High Street, he thought for a . second about those days. He was, it seemed, in a different Universe now..It was great not to have a boss.
Richard strolled over to his local, ' The Oak '
It was a sunny day so he decided to eat in the pretty garden at the back, and for the hundredth time adore the majesty of the grand old oak tree that took centre stage in the middle of the garden. He sat at the table under this lion of trees.
He had ordered a Scampi and Chips and a pint of ' Old Peculiar ' Real Ale., which he ate and supped with abandon.
It was when he had finished such delights when the extraordinary event happened.
She was there.
He blinked a few times as he wondered if he was seeing an illusion . But, no it was her. The girl with the 33.3 obsession. She was standing right in front of him, staring at him with those piercing brown eyes. How long had she been there , he wondered ? He was suddenly embarrassed that he had devoured his food without any thought of how he had looked. doing so.
There was no one else, surprisingly enough, on such a beautiful sunny day in the garden, apart from Colonel Mastering, who at this time of day, was incapable of observing anyone or any thing. He was the most regular of regulars at the village pub, arriving everyday at 10.30 and steadily drinking his mornings away.on Real Ale.
His wife had died a year ago, and since that time he had been a permanent fixture here.
He had nodded at Richard when he arrived and exchanged a few comments on the surprising English weather.
Richard forgot about the Colonel , in fact he forgot everything so taken was he at the beauty that dazzled him.
Her looks lived up to her name.
Angela looked like Richard imagined an angel would look like . She was dressed all in white; a white shirt that looked like a man's shirt, a white skirt that tickled her knees, white trainers and white socks.
Her legs, Richard noticed, were a beautiful sun-tanned, golden brown. The contrast of the golden colour against the white was a teaser for his hungry eyes.
The sun's shining seemed to Richard's eyes to intensify as it focused on this perfect picture perfect. Richard , in his mesmerized state almost felt envious of the sun's penetrating rays.
In his bemused state he thought that they were caressing every inch of her, and that was what he would love to do.
In this brilliant, almost , out of this world light, Richard could see tiny, fine, golden hairs on those angel legs.
How he longed to kiss those legs; to have his tongue on a rampage on those minute golden hairs.
She wasn't smiling, but looked very serious.
Trying to ignore those fairground ride feelings simmering in his belly, he smiled and said, " Well, good to see you. Let me buy you something to eat and something to drink. :"
She didn't answer but continued staring at him.
Richard felt a little bit uneasy.
Then it happened.
She walked over to him, put her hands
round his head and gave him the most passionate kiss he had ever experienced in his life.
A kiss forever is a kiss forever.
